Nutrition: Eat Your Greens At Bonberi Bodega

I am a cheeseburger & french fries kind of girl. And I don’t mean to say that sometimes I can eat half of a cheeseburger, I mean I really enjoy eating meat and despite my best efforts to change my diet I was not doing so hot.

Insert Bonberi Bodega - a plant based bodega founded by Nicole Bonberi that makes eating plant based whole foods, well easy & taste really freaking awesome. I’m not one to dish out undeserved compliments, so I’m telling you everything I ate was great!

It is certainly not your standard vegan stop. The store has an incredibly airy feel about it. When you walk in there is the checkout counter to the left, and to the right you have a few window seats to eat in the bodega, a rustic coffee table with a few products perfectly displayed. Against the side wall a few more house goods & non perishables are perfectly stocked and look very healthy. Transparently I couldn’t name a single product on that table or those shelves. Ravenous as ever, I breezed by the front table and shelves to head straight to the fridge that houses all of the grab & go meals that your taste buds will be v happy you tried.

There was a robust selection of foods from their menu available in the fridge. There were also a few more that were on the menu, but they didn’t have which was a bit of a bummer. Good news is I found 3 salads that were absolutely delicious, green juices that didn’t want to make me plug my nose, a dressing that is now in my fridge at home, and this cashew based schmear that works on everything from breads to chips.

The portions are big and the food really does taste phenomenal. The price is comparable to a sweet green, but the quality seems much higher. Overall, great spot that can help you eat clean even when you are strapped for time. The only reason this spot isn’t a straight up 10 is they don’t have a phone & when I had returned 10 minutes before their listed closing time they had a sign on the door that they were closed for a private event.

Wellness: The Clean Market

After what has been a very long 6 months & a scheduling snafu on taking a trip to Sedona for a retreat at Mii Amo, I have been determined to get some health back in my life this past week. To get me there, I embarked on a self proclaimed ‘wellness week’ journey where I proceeded to research every heath fad, medical professional, and wellness center within 100 miles of New York City. To my jubilation, it appears that New York is a mecca for health and wellness! All I had to do was pick my head up from my laptop and take a look around, which is how I found the Clean Market - a cute one-stop shop for wellness needs or as they describe it ‘your modern wellness destination in New York’.

This would be the first of many stops during wellness week and I’m so happy I started here! This Midtown East was just the mini retreat I needed to kick my booty into gear. What peaked my interest in this spot was that it was really accessible despite being featured in Vogue & WWD it had a very friendly, chill vibe that made me want to learn more.

So what do they do? The real question is, what don’t they do? The Clean Market offers its customers services which include Infrared Sauna treatments, Cryotherapy treatments, & IV Drips administered by an RN & packed with vitamins. They also have a full cafe & a vitamin / product shop that is certainly Goop approved.

When I called to book my appointment I spoke with Dana who was really energetic and explained to me all of the services they offer. She asked what I was looking to accomplish - Detox, duh - and we went from there to create my customized treatment from their menu of options.

I arrived, checked in and was taken to the Chill lounge to prep for my first treatment. The woman took me to the Infrared Sauna room, showed me how to work the meditation lights and left me to relax for 30 minutes which was more than enough. The Infrared Sauna essentially heats you from the inside. From a medical standpoint, not entirely sure what it does, however it definitely makes you sweat & I was sold at burning 600 calories while sitting…

After my 30 mins it was time for my IV drip. The RN on staff got me set up with the drip & even ordered The Glow smoothie for me while I waited. The IV drip was a florescent yellow color & you can definitely taste the vitamins as they are going into your system, however that was quickly outweighed by the fact that this concoction of vitamins made my skin look like I was JLo. The whole drip took between 30-45 minutes and was entirely worth it! As someone who never drinks enough water, I really felt like a million dollars leaving.

I’m already excited to head back!
